Updated: ESPN (not) filming 30 for 30 in Blacksburg

I discovered through the wonderful world of Facebook that ESPN is in Blacksburg tonight filming a documentary at Big Al's. I assume it's for a 30 for 30 about Michael Vick. Pretty cool. For those unaware, Big Al's has a goalpost from the 1999 BC game that got carried out of Lane Stadium and right down Main Street after the game so I would imagine that will have some sort of role in what they are filming there.

Guys, I hadn't been able to touch base with Mandarin (Fla.) three-star linebacker Aundre Ricardo-Kearney the past few days, but caught up to him a bit earlier. He's pretty set with the decision.

Ricardo-Kearney told me he's planning on graduating in December and enrolling early at VT. So that's a pretty good sign. He told me "Between now and December, if any the schools were to offer, I wouldn’t feel comfortable. It’s a rush and there wouldn’t be a relationship."

On March 19, Ricrado-Kearney and his family made their first trip to Blacksburg. It sounds like they absolutely fell in love with the area, so much that his parents have already talked about buying a house and moving to Virginia. Ricardo-Kearney's mom is a seamstress and his dad works for the US department of defense.

Assistant coach Charley Wiles was the main recruiter here and Ricrdo-Kearney said he loved how he stayed on him even when he was committed to Miami. He told me that Wiles visited his maximum three times and each time, he really liked what he heard. Ricardo-Kearney loved that Wiles text him, "I'm turnt,' when he committed and how Wiles told him he took his wife to a Keith Sweat concert recently. It sounds like the Hokies put a bit of pressure on him Thursday to decide, saying they were holding off other linebackers. And at 10:30 that night, Ricardo-Kearney said he made up his mind.

As mentioned previously, VT has recruited Ricardo-Kearney as a 'backer. He also plans on majoring in sports medicine. I like this kid. He plays tough and is a long, rangy type of kid that Bud Foster has typically used. I think he'll fit in well and with him enrolling early, that increases chances of him not having to redshirt.

Full story coming.

***INsider: Isaiah Moore On VT Visit**

As always, what's posted here, STAYS HERE. Don't de-value your own subscription by giving away information to others who don't pay like you do. It's also a violation of our terms of service and will result in the termination of your subscription.

Guys, I just talked a little while ago with LC Bird (Va.) three-star linebacker Isaiah Moore. He visited VT this past weekend with his friend and teammate, three-star linebacker Rayshard Ashby, who committed.

Moore does not have a Hokies offer. He does have two, from Army and Old Dominion. And I'll be frank right off the bat, VT will have to lose out on a few guys for Moore to get an offer. He's a 'backer and the Hokies just took one of the top guys on their board in Aundre Ricardo-Kearney. Moore is a very good player and he could earn an offer still when he camps at VT this summer. He'd be in that category of best available linebacker and right now, there's others ahead of him on the pecking order.

I like Moore a lot. Very technically sound, smart kid, but he told me every coach has told him they want to see him cover in space. He's drawn interest from and has heard that from Virginia, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Maryland and others. He likes assistant coach Galen Scott, but Scott has also told him that.

This one of those where if VT offered, I think he might commit on the spot, especially with Ashby on board. So the Hokies can't just throw an offer here. But if he balls out at camp, obviously that could change. He plans on visiting Army April 23 and Old Dominion in the next few weeks. We'll see him at camp and get a better feel for him in person there.

Hokies offer 2018 QB

Virginia Tech just offered big time 2018 dual-threat QB Phil Jurkovec, out of Pine Richland HS in Pennsylvania. Jurkovec is a tall QB at 6'5', but only weighs in at 190. He's gotten offers from numerous schools, including: Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.

***INsider: Ricky Slade Latest***

Guys, I spoke earlier with Hylton (Va.) stud running back Ricky Slade, one of the top running backs in the country for his class. He visited Virginia Tech Wednesday with his father, Ricky Sr and assistant coach John Harris.

This was the first time Slade had been to VT since he was on hand for the Ohio State game in September. Slade said this was also the first time he really got to meet with the new coaching staff at length.

Slade, his father and Harris got to VT around noon on Wednesday and hung around all afternoon. They talked with the coaches, sat in on a few position meetings and talked about where he would fit in the offense. Slade told me, "They told us they’re trying to get the offense back where it as, equal with the defense. The past few years, defense was better than offense." He also seemed to like how he would be used not only as a running back, but also split out some and used in various ways.

"They’re a lot better school," Slade told me. "I think they’re gonna be a lot better than last year. It changed a little bit what I think, in a good way."

The only other visit Slade has taken this year was last month to Penn State. That was his second visit there, after the spring game there last year. He told me he had dinner with running back Saquon Barkley and got to hang out at length with him. Slade also spoke with the coaches and a few academic advisors as well.

The only visits Slade has coming up are to James Madison next weekend (I think to see a friend) and to Ohio State's spring game. This trip worked out for VT because this week was Slade's spring break. Penn State and Ohio State are definitely the two biggest threats right now. But the Hokies are in good shape so far here. WAY too early to say if VT will get him. Slade does plan to announce before this season, so expect something in late July or August.

Rayshard Ashby On Commitment

Guys, I won't have any more updates today, with it being Easter and a lot of coaches and recruits, including those who visited yesterday, having plans with their families. I actually just stepped out of my own dinner plans for this.

LC Bird (Va.) three-star LB Rayshard Ashby called me on his way home from Blacksburg. He told me he'd actually stopped in Charlottesville for a bit to eat. But essentially, he told me he hadn't planned to commit anywhere until this summer. It came down to Maryland and VT, with Marshall a distant third.

The 'aha' moment came when he was talking yesterday with defensive coordinator Bud Foster. Ashby said when he heard again about he would be used and the depth chart the next few years, he decided then that he wanted to commit. Ashby was recruited by the Hokies and will play as a Mike linebacker in the middle.

This was his sixth visit by my count that he's visited VT. He also camped last June, visited for the home games against Ohio State, NC State and North Carolina and junior day Feb. 6. He thought there was probably another visit or two in there.

This guy is big time. I don't think he'll be a four-star guy, but he could be a high three-star guy. Ashby plans on participating in the Charlotte stop of the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour.

Full story coming very shortly that I'll post on here.
