VT In Top 5 For Four-Star Guard

Guys, one of the top targets for VT in the 2017 class for quite a while has been Hamilton Heights (Tenn.) four-star Nick Alexander-Walker, No. 91 in the latest Rivals150 for 2017. His uncle played with assistant coach Jamie McNeilly and that connection has been there for a while. I'm not linking this story on the front page because it's all about Maryland, but Alexander-Walker does say in it that he now has a top five of VT, Mary;and, Baylor, USC and Cincinnati:

Where the.......is everybody????

It seems like everytime I come over here all I hear is crickets......y'all going to make me start throwing insults at the cHokies just to get this board going again. Ok I'll start......Fuentes is overrated.....Buzz should be staring in a 3 Stooges movie instead of leading VT to bottom half of conference again.....The Wrestling team is having a great year, but it doesn't count since it's an Olympic sport. I know this because for 30 years VT fans have told me Olympic sports don't count, sorry....I guess some of you are only man enough to post when VT wins 11 games in football, bunch of fair weather fans.....chirp....chirp....chirp

***INsider: Brailyn Franklin On Offer***

Guys, I spoke earlier with Battlefield (Va.) athlete Brailyn Franklin. He visited VT for junior day yesterday and was offered before he left. That was Franklin's first offer, though he's also heard from Marshall, NC State and a host of other smaller schools.

Franklin told me that the Hokies have offered him as an athlete. And this kid is a true athlete. He played wide receiver, then moved to cornerback and safety and when Battlefield struggled against the run, Franklin moved to nose guard and defensive end. Franklin said it's funny that Rivals has him ranked as the No. 28 defensive end, since that's probably the position he's played least.

Of yesterday's trip to VT, Franklin said, "The visit was amazing." He told me he walked around campus, saw the facilities, went to the indoor facility and talked to a number of the coaches, including Justin Fuente, Galen Scott, Bud Foster and Holmon Wiggins. Foster is Franklin's primary recruiter and Franklin told me he's called multiple times to check on his grades and how he's doing in school.

Franklin told me, "Overall, I love the school in general." He said he's been a fan because his brother was a fan and has got him liking the Hokies because of Michael Vick. Franklin said he's been a fan ever since.

Franklin has no other visits planned right now. He said he's in no hurry to commit, because he wants to keep his options open. The problem is figuring out exactly where he's gonna play. VT hasn't figured it out, but definitely thinks he's good enough for a scholarship. Good move for the Hokies to get in first, here, but this one has a long way to go.

INsider: VT Commit Visits Elsewhere

Guys, I just spoke to our friend Chris Peak at PantherLair.com, our Pittsburgh site. He informs me that Stonewall Jackson (Va.) three-star safety Devante Smith visited Pittsburgh for the Panthers' junior day today. We'll have plenty more coverage of that visit. I wouldn't worry right now. He committed last summer, which was a LOT of time before he could sign in Feb. 2017. As happens when guys commit that early, they want to make sure they made the right decision and they end up visiting others schools.
