Hoops transfer taking an official visit this weekend

Dru Smith is a 6-3, 190-pounder who was clearly Evansville's best player last year (.491 from three, great at assisting and racking up steals), but couldn't seem to get a ton of minutes as a sophomore:

Still odd to me that the staff seems to focused on grabbing guards, but I guess a guy who'll have to sit out next year (as Smith would have to do, before having two years of eligibility remaining) is more of a replacement for when Justin Robinson et al graduate.

Update on Bryan Hudson

Hola Hokies,

Dave Lackford from kentuckypreps.com here bearing good news. I just spoke to Hudson who returned from a multi-school visit to Florida, Ole Miss, and LSU. I didn't bother asking him a bunch of questions about the visit, I only inquired if anything had changed at the top of his list.

Me: "So after all this visits no change, it's still VT with UofL, Duke, and ND? VT on top of course?"

Hudson: "Yes sir it is."

I talk to Hudson frequently along with a lot of people in the Lexington football community. Hudson is a straight forward kid who doesn't play any games. He's one of those type of kids who is too genuine to lie or keep a poker face.

It looks like VT has held this lead dating back to at least January. I know a lot of Hokie recruitnicks feel Notre Dame is the biggest threat here but I think UofL is equally as dangerous. His sister is on the Louisville track team and he's been tight with OL coach Mike Summers and recruiting coordinator Pete Nochta for a while. What puts VT ahead of UofL in this one has been the involvement of the head coaches. Justin Fuentes has been way more active with Hudson than Petrino has. Notre Dame hasn't been involved with Hudson until January (after he named VT his leader) after they hired Jeff Quinn. So VT and Justin Fuentes enjoy the benefit of a long standing relationship while Notre Dame will have to blow him away with the official visit.

I'm not saying VT is a lock here, but they are definitely sitting in a comfortable spot and the credit goes to Fuentes getting hands on early in the process. I'll keep everyone posted if I get any new info, especially after the ND visit.

Spring Football Practice

I thought after the win over Duke, we might have something to get excited about with the Big Dance.
How'd that turn out?
So Spring is here according to the calendar so its time to time to turn our attention to what really matters, Hokie Football. We lost most of our defensive backfield so Bud is going to have his hands full trying to find some hell hounds to replace them. And then there is the question of who is going to be the Quarterback. Its Jackson's position to lose so I hope he steps up and takes charge of the offense. It will be interesting to watch.
Buzz, we'll see ya next fall.
