Serious Questions - No Hidden Agenda Here

Before posing the question, let me first say I have confidence in Whit and perceive him to be a man who not only has a vision for our program but knows how to implement a plan that will eventually turn that vision into reality. He is not afraid to do what is necessary to accomplish what he believes is critical to effect change, to include making a financial commitment in people, facilities and marketing. Results from change are rarely seen overnight.

Here's my question: If you could be the athletic director at Virginia Tech, who would you hire as the head coach?

Here's my 2nd question: If you were the head coach at Virginia Tech, who would you hire as your staff?

One Less Offensive Lineman

Guys, I've seen it out there sporadically, but wanted to post here and let everyone know that we've confirmed that redshirt freshman OL Austin Clark has quit the team. We haven't been told an exact reason for why, but have heard that he didn't like the new workouts and wasn't liking his place with the new staff. He's still on campus and still enrolled in school, but is not with the team.

Extremely thin at DE and that concerns me...

Checking out the current roster we have 6 DE's that could/should see action next year. How many have started? One. How many have actually taken snaps in a game? 2. We threw out offers to several JUCO kids this year. QB. RB. Why no DE offers? A position of need. There were 5 DE's in the top 50 JUCO rankings. We offered zero of them. Why?

I will list the DE's we currently have on roster including our 2016 class. The class ranking is what they'll be in 2016 season.

Seth Dooley- RS Junior
Ken Ekanem- RS Senior
Darius Fulwood- RS Freshman
Houshun Gaines- RS Freshman
Trevon Hill- RS Freshman
Vinny Mihota- RS Sophomore
Jimmie Taylor- Freshman

The state of Virginia has quite a few DE's in the 2017 class in the Virginia top 30. Four of the top 10 are DE's. Can we sign any of them? Luiji Vilain is #3. TyJuan Garbutt is #6. Yetur Matos is #9. Jordan Williams is #10. They are MUST GETS. We have to sign at least two of them. Less than that is a total and complete failure.

Why so glum

Come on Hokies, why is everyone complaining?

We retooled our cupboard for QBs with 2 excellent choices. One will redshirt, one will start, not bad.

We are loaded at RB, so that was not a big priority....still would have liked one.

We restocked the cupboard at WR, which we needed to do, and got some great young players, tall, fast, etc.

We got 4 new OL, 2 projects and 2 future bookend tackles. Not too shabby, need some Guards!

We DID get 3 DEs, which we seriously needed, bodies help. Need a stud ASAP though.

We got some depth at DT, which we will need next year. We are stacked for next year.

We got 3 more LBS, two of which are over 6'2" 220lbs, which is HUGE considering our past LB recruits.

We needed help at safety, we got 3-4 able bodies to compete and provide depth.

Oh yeah, we got a 4* corner in Ladler to help there as well...for those who love stars!

YES, we missed on some we really wanted, that happens every year.

Here is to a huge 2017 class full of every kid we all want, which hopefully includes Laborn, Capehart, Matos, Garbutt, Crosby, Ewell, Foster, Brooks, Poole, Wade, and Hunter!!

GO HOKIES!!!

New Recruiting Staff Hires

Jason or Max, why does the rivals article that Max put out say, "Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente added four new members to the football support staff Tuesday morning.... and the final new member of the Virginia Tech staff, Shannon Lewis, joins as an assistant to the head coach." Yet hokiesports says this about Shannon Lewis, "Virginia Tech head women’s soccer coach Chugger Adair announced Tuesday that former East Carolina assistant coach Shannon Lewis will join the Virginia Tech women’s soccer program as a volunteer assistant coach."

So is Ms. Lewis on Fuent's staff or Adair'd staff?
