Guys, I spoke earlier with a newer basketball recruit on the radar for VT in 2017, Dakota (Mich.) three-star guard Jermaine Jackson. He's the son of former NBA player Jermaine "JJ" Jackson, who played with the Raptors, Hawks, Knicks and Bucks, as well as overseas and is now an assistant coach at Detroit Mercy. Jackson's uncle is former NBA star Jerry Stackhouse.

The younger Jackson is being looked at and recruited by assistant coach Jamie McNeilly. He made a trip up to see Jackson a few weeks ago. Jackson currently has nine offers, most notably from DePaul, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, SMU, Auburn and Northwestern. The Hokies have not offered yet, but my guess is that could come soon.

The only visit Jackson has made since the school year started was to Pittsburgh in November when Detroit played there. But that was mostly for the game. Jackson has also visited Michigan numerous times because of proximity, but there is familiarity there, too. The one school that really seems to have caught his eye, though, is SMU. Larry Brown coached his dad and there's even more familiarity there. Jackson said he is considering Detroit, but that his dad has basically let him do his own thing and hasn't tried to push him there.

With VT, Jackson said that McNeilly "texts me all the time." The game that McNeilly was on hand for, Jackson had a game-high 29 points. He said McNeilly has also told him that he's his favorite point guard. Jackson hopes to get down over the next couple of months for a visit, but it hasn't happened yet and Jackson isn't sure when it will happen.

The thing I really like about Jackson is he seems to have good character. Comes from a big background, in which he's been around the NBA a lot, hears from Stackhouse, Jamal Crawford and a few other players pretty often and has really noticed what it takes to win. Jackson also reads to elementary school children three days a week, which I liked hearing.

Keep an eye on this one.

***NEW LOOK FOR SITE COMING***

Guys, I know you've seen the tech updates and the bugs that have been worked out as Rivals updates to a new version. Obviously, the message boards were the first step. The next step is for our content and front page to be updated and look a bit different.

The change will take place one week from today, Jan. 12. The intent is for our site to be far more mobile friendly, as the number of users who use our site on mobile devices continues to rise. There will be more bugs to be worked out and sorted through, but we hope that the changes give you a better experience and better value for your subscriptions.

For the next week, I'll be integrating the new content look in our stories. Here's our first sample: https://virginiatech.n.rivals.com/news/hokies-no-pushover

***INsider: Brelin Faison-Walden***

Guys, I spoke earlier with Grimsley (NC) 2017 athlete Brelin Faison-Walden, one of the newest recruits to receive four stars. Faison-Walden was offered by the Hokies last spring and visited for junior day.

Now, Faison-Walden has offers from East Carolina, Appalachian State, Charlotte and perhaps surprisingly, Alabama. That one is legit, though, as it came in person when he was on an unofficial visit there for the Nov. 21 game against Charleston Southern. The Tide are recruiting Faison-Walden as a safety. Though he played multiple positions again this past fall, most schools are recruiting him as a safety or outside linebacker.

With VT, Faison-Walden said he's yet to speak with new coach Justin Fuente. But he's talked regularly with assistant coach Charley Wiles and the two have stayed in touch with everything. The only other school Faison-Walden said he's heard much from is North Carolina. The Tar Heels have only really been in contact by mail, though.

I get the sense that Faison-Walden isn't hearing much from anyone right now. It's not set, but it's a good bet he'll be at VT's junior day on Feb. 6. Past that, the only thing he has planned for sure is the Army Combine in San Antonio this Friday. This is a kid who when he gets going at camps this spring, should start seeing a lot more offers pop in. I think a lot of schools aren't really sure how he'd fit because he has good size, but in some ways is a 'tweener. He had a solid fall, though and was rewarded with the four stars.

What makes this win even sweeter

are the comments from the Hoos that are crying in their Zima. You have to love this quote by a Hoo on another board: "The worst officiated game I've seen this year no doubt however, we shot like shit outside of LP... CHokies pay their refs off now doubt!"

Guess he didn't see the charge or the offensive goal tending or the "over the back" no call, all in the last few minutes.

Sorry Hoo, maybe mommy will give you some warm milk and cookies and tuck you in tonight.

Fuente's Offense

Can some one describe his offense for me in some detail? I know it's a type of up temp spread and I've watched highlight videos of Memphis, but I still want some more detail instead of just watching these long touchdown plays. Maybe there's a video some one can link me of a game that's a good example? thanks guys.

***INsider: Devon Hunter Update***

Guys, one of the biggest targets for the 2017 class in the state of Virginia and has been for some time is Indian River (Va.) four-star safety Devon Hunter. He's ranked No. 35 in the Rivals100. Hunter is also now up to 34 offers after most recently, offers from Ole Miss and Notre Dame.

First off, keep in mind that Hunter is one of the first 2017 targets that coach Justin Fuente went to see in person. Fuente was also there to see Hunter's teammates, VT commit Tavante Beckett and Alabama commit Jaquan Yulee, but Fuente was on hand at Indian River's state semi-final game against Highland Springs on Dec. 5.

Hunter said he still likes the Hokies a lot, but was very close to Bryan Stinespring, who's leaving. Hunter said he still likes assistant coach Torrian Gray and defensive coordinator Bud Foster a lot and is glad they're staying but said it's "weird" seeing the coaches who are leaving, leave. He said that he spoke to Fuente only briefly after the game. Fuente shook his hand, told him to keep his head up and keep working.

By far, THE school that sounds like it's on top is Clemson. Hunter still hasn't visited, but loves defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Hunter tole me "They're a bunch of ballers. People don’t look at them as I do. They’re going to a lot of games with confidence and competitive against whoever they play." He hasn't talked much to coach Dabo Swinney, but loves how he coaches and loves everything he's seen. That's the only visit he has planned right now, for their Jan. 30 junior day.

The only other school that Hunter even mentioned was Florida. I do think VT is towards the top after talking to him, but it's obvious he likes Clemson and that's a tough one to overcome. Gray and Zohn Burden really need to work this one hard. Stinespring did for the past about three years, so there's been groundwork, but Fuente himself will probably have to keep this one going. This is a very important one for the Hokies to stay on in the class.
