Decommitments

For defense, much less likely.
For offense, an unknown to all the commitments. Has to build relationship and show value to the athlete fast.

This is open and honest with VT.

"I'm not sure, you should be looking for an alternative and I wouldn't feel right you holding my scholarship. I want to check out some other schools that I considered, and will obviously still consider VT. I don't have much time and need to act quickly."

I would want these guys back.

So, looking at some numbers here...

Fuente was the co-OC at TCU from 09-11 when the Horned Frogs averaged scoring 38.3, 41.6 and 40.8 pts/gm. After two brutal start-from-scratch years at Memphis, his last two offenses averaged scoring 36.2 and 42.3 pts/gm. The five numbers I listed above gives his offenses a scoring average of 39.9 pts/gm over that time frame. If you include the rebuilding years, then it's about 5 pts/gm lower, but I'm hesitant to include rebuilding at Memphis in the same light as taking over at VT.

Since 2009, VT has averaged scoring 31.8, 33.9, 27.9, 25.1, 22.5, 24.1 and 29.0 pts/gm, for an overall average of 27.8 pts/gm.

This gives a difference of 12.2 pts/gm on average. So, what would our schedules have looked like since 2009 with 12 more pts/gm added in? Why, glad you asked...

Record against top 10 opponents: 5-2
Record against top 5 opponents: 2-2

Folks, 12 extra pts/gm on offense is a pretty big deal when you're swinging a Bud Foster defense. And the numbers above don't take into account any residual effects such as high level recruits WANTING to come play in this offense and to play for national titles, which would likely be the case.

ECU Fires Ruffin McNeill

ECU fired Ruffin this morning. Pretty surprising. 5-7 this year after 10-3 a year ago. I could see ECU as a fit for Shane Beamer if they think he's ready to be a head man. They obviously think they are better than what Ruffin gives them, so they have to be shooting for some hotshot, young assistant to take them into Memphis/Houston range.

Playoffs

1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Okalhoma
4. Iowa
5. Michigan State
6. The team from Ohio

The Okies and Iowa should not be in top 4. The worst thing that could happen is UNC beat Clemson, then the team from Ohio will get in over UNC. I think that is BS. I am not a UNC fan, but if they beat Clemson the #1 team, then UNC should be in playoffs. As for Okies, they have not beat anyone except an over ranked Ok State team.
