Am I making more out of this than I should? For one a reason why so many were transferring out was because Fuente didn’t “connect” with the younger players. He’s actually in on those “Big Squat Friday’s” that they do. So not sure why or how the “disconnect” theory began. I also like the fact that 7 of the top 10 are defensive players. I will post the link below. But nothing but positive things coming from this.

Could just be an oversight - and obviously it's not a comprehensive interview - but a kid that the Hokies want badly, who lives an hour away from campus (and there aren't many guys of that caliber that close in each class) having your team slip his mind is not the greatest.

#1 seed VT got bounced from the ACC Tourney 3-2 by NCS in its first game today. Tech came in to the Tourney with a team batting average of .341 ( 6th in nation) but could only muster 4 hits today in the loss. They should still be a lock for the NCAA's however.

Bumped up to a 4 star by one of the other recruiting services. Ran a recent 4.31 forty!

I remain skeptical that the juice will ever be worth the squeeze there for a program like Virginia Tech, but at least casting a big net at once draws attention and makes it more likely some of these guys organize a group trip to Blacksburg together.

Actually took me a couple days to confirm this one on VT's end because it's a little odd: he's a quarterback from Georgia who told me his primary recruiter is Jafar Williams (who recruits receivers and an area in the Northeast - though he does have experience recruiting Georgia). A bit of an odd combo, but it's legit:

I would expect it to be a commitment (in the 2019 class), with the Hokies having a nose over NC State, based on what he told me about his official visit to Blacksburg.

He hasn't given a specific time, so stay tuned.

I caught up with Darius Johnson, after he dropped 32 points and dished six assists against a Nike EYBL team, at the 'Battle At The Beach' in Daytona Beach. During our conversation he mentioned that "Virginia Tech has been showing me some interest."


I've seen Johnson play about a half-dozen times and he has looked better each time I've seen him. I believe that he is a high three-star prospect and I will be recommending that rating when we update the 2021 class (I just made his Rivals Profile Page Sunday night). He had a very good performance in Atlanta during the live evaluation period.

He is a sophomore at Episcopal (an Alexandria boarding school) and runs with an Orlando based travel team because his parents live in Central Florida. His father is Kelvin Johnson, the men’s basketball Director of Player Development at UCF.

Johnson is strong lead guard who can score it or distribute it. He has better than average quickness and is a capable shot maker. He also has a high basketball IQ and advanced feel for the game. Something he gives his father credit for.

Darius' brother, Xavier, committed to George Mason and will enroll there in June.
