Day after thoughts:

We're young, immature team that can't focus on the task
C n RG are Terrible
Is Jerods ankle ok? His passing has regressed.
Fuente said practices were fine, so can he not fire the team up? Or we're practices bad but he's not telling us.
Play calling is confusing. WHY IS BUCKY NOT IS WHEN WERE INSIDE THE 10?!???
also remember this is only Brads second year calling plays, before Fuente called them.
Defense gave up big plays but overal thought wasn't that bad.
But this is 3rd straight below performance, Bud will easily go down as top DC ever but I think he's getting outmatched - age happens
GT defense is straight awful and we couldn't score.
Ton of top tier recruits were there very anxious to see if play on field impacts their feelings toward us.
1st year coach - this is expected look at all other upsets at HOME today.
Super frustrated but want to hear everyone's thoughts

Bucky NFL future

I'm hearing a lot of Bucky mentions with this year's draft. I think he may end up being projected in top 2 rounds so he may be gone. What sucks for VT is if none leaves early, the Offense would return some HEAVY hitters next year that could really make push at a play-off. But I guess this is a good problem to have when it comes to the eyes of recruits they want to go somewhere that can get them to the NFL. Ford still could go as well but I do not think he will have a top 2 round grade this draft and he seems like a very smart player and does not really seem to have severe financial need at home. Ford will be one of the top WRs in next draft. Bucky would be the #1 TE prospect and almost certainly a lottery pick if he returns but if he was to leave with a top 2 round grade then I see nothing wrong with that. I do think he needs to work on his hands just a bit tho. He is more of a body catcher, and he has dropped some really easy balls well within his catch radius.

If these boys ball out the rest of the season with a lot of eye balls starting to check out this program they both could be gone.. ND, and Clemson (if they make acccg) will be very scout heavy games.

Woody Baron, Mike Leach, "There will be no review"

1. Washington State has been under the radar. This is largely because they are West Coast, have not been very good historically, and of course, Mike Leach is their coach. Mike Leach is more of a conservative type of guy, more old school, more traditional, so you know what that means in the USA of 2016. This means, the media by in large, does not like him. With the above written, he has a very dangerous team and a solid offense. I think this is Washington's loss, if they have one. I think Washington wins the Pac 12 title and probably will win over Utah, maybe Colorado in the Pac 12 title game, but playing against Washington State in the regular season will not be easy. Is Mike Leach my national coach of the year? No. Is he a top 5 candidate in my opinion? Absolutely.

2. Woody Baron. You are 6"1, and 265. You were a 3 star and your only other major big program offer was Arizona State, Louisville, and Syracuse. You are no defensive lineman. You are to slow. You certainly are not fast enough or strong enough and can't play, or at least start for a major program like Virginia Tech. Well? Somebody forgot to tell Woody Baron that. He may be the player most responsible for allowing VT to play for an ACC Title, if we do win the last 2 in the ACC. The guy had ZERO business doing what he did to a 300+ pound offensive lineman today. He TOOK, absolutely, TOOK the momentum from Duke not one, not 2, but 3 different times when WR's for Duke were running wide open, but Baron beat his guy and got pressure. Hats off to Woody Baron. Somebody forgot to tell Woody that he and the rest of the Hokies were supposed to go on the road, show up emotionally not involved, and likely lose. Woody would not accept that fate. Hats off to WB who put up an incredible and absolutely foolish effort.

3. The announcers. Is it me, or is it true that whenever we have a game, it seems that most of the time (not all, but most) we have an announcer who is simply and obviously not a VT fan, or at least, much more emotionally involved with the "other" team? One example is when Ford caught a pass for about 19 yards with a pass interference called as well. One of the announcers seemed to lose it emotionally and he emphatically stated two times, "there is no review on that?" He was arguing as to whether Ford caught the ball, but there was still the pass interference call which was a difference of 4 yards anyway. You could see by this clear example that the underlying emotion of the one announcer showed that he was much more "emotionally invested" with Duke compared to VT. With that written, the other announcer seemed pretty dang fair and straight down the middle.

Conclusion: Hats off to Woody Baron. If we are fortunate enough to go to Florida for the ACC Title, send this guy a thank you note. This is a game VT is supposed to lose. Much like Syracuse, playing on the road, injuries, in conference and against an opponent who is sky high and going to give you its best shot, and on top of that, not a huge gap in talent between us and Duke by recruiting standards the last 4 years. Credit the coaches and players for winning an ugly game on the road. Finally, keep you eyes on Wash State. They lost the first two games of the season by a total of 6 points. One of those games they got outplayed. The other game, they should have won, but since then, have quietly ran off 7 straight victories. They are much like VT of the West Coast this year in that they are quietly, under the radar.......winning. Mike Leach is doing a solid job this year and if Washington does lose this year before the post season, that loss will come to Washington State.

The above are only my opinions.

With a Coastal Division title now all-but guarantee (knock on wood), does that make Justin Fuente's first season a success?

**New** Early look at some expected recruits

The headliners of this weekend's game against Georgia Tech are primarily defensive backs. Here's a quick look at some expected to make it to Lane this weekend (with a comprehensive list to come later this week):

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian five-star defensive back Shaun Wade
The Ohio State commit is naturally the biggest name who will be in town. It's not super-often that the Hokies get a five-star from outside the region on a visit. This is Wade's official, and while it seems likely that he sticks with his current commitment (Ohio State) or goes with an SEC school, there's no harm in taking a swing for the fences.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian four-star wide receiver D.J. Matthews
Matthews hasn't been as hot a name on the radar, but Wade's teammate will be making the trip, as well. He's also committed to another school - ACC rival Florida State - but has taken a visit to Tennessee. Coming along with Wade (and given VT's commitment from a fellow Jacksonville-area player in Aundre Ricardo-Kearney) can only be a boost for both.

Upper Marlboro (Md.) Riverdale Baptist defensive back Tariq Castro-Fields
With VT after so many talented defensive backs, it's actually easy to overlook a four-star outside the Rivals250 like Castro-Fields. However, he's been on-campus multiple times, including for the Blacksburg Barbecue in August, and the Hokies are very high in his recruitment.

Atlanta Pace Academy three-star running back Deon Jackson
Perhaps not the top running back on the board (that would be fellow Georgia prospect Jalen Holston), but one who is certainly on the VT radar in a big way. He's also committed elsewhere (Duke), and maybe the staff won't put the hard-press on him with Holston ahead of him on their board - and likely to choose the Hokies on his own official visit in a couple weeks - but you never know how his decision process can be affected when on campus.

Again, stay tuned later in the week for a more comprehensive list.
